yelopathy refers to a loss of spinal cord function. Causes of myelopathy can include:

  • Degenerative changes
  • Bone spurs
  • Disc herniation
  • Trauma
  • Compressed nerves

Compression can cause irreversible injury to the spinal cord resulting in serious disability. Myelopathy is usually detected by having problems with walking because of weakness or pain. It is most commonly found in elderly people. Non-surgical treatment can include:

  • Physical therapy
  • Medicine
  • Exercise

Surgical treatments can be discussed if pain persists and is identified.
